How much is too much?

How much love for a pet is too much? Everyone loves their pets. How far are you willing to go for your pet? I've known people that have paid for brain surgery for a cat. Same cat required insulin shots later. That's love and dedication that is unmatched especially for a pet. I've known people that have spent thousands for a broken leg on a dog. A dog that wasn't even theirs, it was abandoned. I've known several that have cremated their pets and kept the ashes.

Today though, through the course of my day job which takes me into people's homes, I saw a dog that had been put down because of terminal health issues. While that sounds tame, the rest of the story is that he had been dead for a full 24 hours. Then he was laid on the floor in the home office on a dog bed with care. All but his head covered with a small blanket. Eyes wide open. I had to step over him several times on my visit of over 2 hours today. Maybe it's just me being creeped out I don't know. They did remark that they were going to bury him soon but due to the current weather issues it was uncertain when that may be.

So I don't know,.... How much is too much? I don't know if that question has one answer. Our pets mean the world to us and we all have that right to do what we feel is necessary to help them. So while, it may sound like I'm judging, I'm not. There are times like today that I am amazed at the level some go for their pets.

Twinkles gone!

How could this happen? Well it's simple. Earlier this year Hostess filed for reorganization bankruptcy protection. Years after employees warned them of bad business choices and they refused the input.

Hostess upper management has bought into the catch phrase that unions are the problem. While collective bargaining is not the perfect solution to the workplace dilemmas it is the solution that has brought benefits to all of labor, union and non union. Most don't know that holidays, paid or not, weekends, paid vacations, sick pay, eight hour work day, overtime etc. are all benefits that are brought to the middle class through unions fighting to keep a middle class.

Case in point would be the recent labor/management dispute at Raleys. Raleys claimed for a year that they were going to face a financial problem unless they cut wages and made workers pay for more of their own healthcare. Which Raleys already received a tax credit for under obamacare. The union said if that was true then sit down with us and show us. Raleys kept saying no. It wasn't until the recent strike on the eve of a major holiday for food shopping did Raleys settle the dispute. Public relations people at all companies are paid to spin the data to make the company look good. Please realize that when you hear things in the media.

Also, when your uneducated neighbor, family member, etc tells you that unions are bad let him/her know that the middle class owes all better working conditions to union workers over the last 100 years.

Infidelity in government leadership

Why do we have government leaders? How did they get to their office? What job did we give them? How well are they doing at that job? I don't ever recall us asking any of them in advance any of these questions:
1. Are they going to commit adultery?
2. Who are they having sex with?
3. What's their sexual preference?
4. Are they into group sex?

And so on. Do you ask yourself these questions? Why does the American media sensationalize infidelity of government and military leaders? They are in their job titles because we put them there to do a job. Why does that seem to get lost when the media gets wind of what they think should be an issue? Any takers in my question? My guess is that as a society built on what are suppose to be Christian values we are very hypocritical. We rarely let the media down in the category of judgment. So regular they can the gauge how much their sales will boost if they run the story. Even if they aren't first. Like piranha they have a feeding frenzy and destroy anything good that person has done.

Why is it news worthy anyway? I believe that we should only be concerned with how they do the job we gave them to do The rest are life choices that we should not even be involved in. An argument is that they are leaders and role models to our children. Why are the role models for our children people we haven't even met? Why aren't we the role models for our children? Maybe we have too many faults of our own to be a good role model Maybe thats the fascination with leaders falling from grace That we get to see them not being as perfect as we thought? Maybe we feel better about ourselves when we see it. It lessens our own faults in some pathetic way.... Just saying.

You have to decide for yourself what it is for you or if you're just as disgusted with it as I am. Good luck.

Thought for today

It's chilly today. If you're riding, take plenty of warm gear. Keep the rubber side down!
